"Latch Broke and couldn't open" 2010-01-19
By Alex (Toms River NJ)
The latch broke after a few uses and I couldn't get it open. I had to destroy it to open it then I threw it out.

 "Terrible" 2009-12-20
By Andrew Linke
This safe is absolutely terrible.

The plastic latch jammed when we moved, but the plastic face seemed loose, so I figured that I would pry the faceplate off and be able to press the lever after unlocking the safe. No need for that. 10 seconds with a screwdriver and the entire lock assembly fell off, shedding fireproofing as it came. Then the lid fell entirely off. Absolute junk.

Ah, and those who mention that it is too small for standard file folders are correct.

"DO NOT BUY THIS SAFE" 2009-10-25
By Tom (Tulsa, OK United States)
This safe has a design or manufacturing flaw. The inside walls have a bulge. Standard letter size file folders will not fit. I purchased the safe and then returned it. I went to Lowes and opened three boxes and all three had the same flaw. Thats 4 out of 4 bad. Not a very good record. In addition, 3 of the 4 were extremely hard to open. I had to put the full force of my 200 lbs on the top to compress the seal enough to open!

I ended up purchasing of the Sentry H4100 models. It is larger on the inside. No bulges. File folders fit and slide easily. Also, has an extra 2 inches of space in the lid allowing for space to store a binder or any taller items. Also, easier to open. Still requires pressure to compress the seal, but has a handle to assist.

 "HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" 2009-06-26
By Roger Dufresne (Derry, NH, USA)
I'm sorry but this safe has got to be one of the biggest mistakes that Sentry has made. It's difficult if not impossible to open and I've almost given up a few times and just destroyed the safe to get at the contents.

DON"T WASTE YOUR TIME BUYING THIS SAFE!

"Poor Design - standard folders don't fit!" 2009-04-01
By Chad Hill ((The Third World))
I ordered this fireproof/water resistant safe to store personal records (will, birth certificates, SS Cards, etc). I'm sure it works fine, it is very heavy, locks securly, and seems as though it would survive a fire. As another reviewer mentioned it is difficult to open. You have to push down on the lid and engage the handle to pop it open. One thing of note is that the heavy lid slams and is completely unsuitable for use by small children (i.e. serious finger pinching action).

I only give this product two stars because it has one MAJOR design flaw. I cannot fit standard 11 3/4" x 9 5/8" file folders. I've yet to try to see if this company supplies hanging folders that go with it. It only need about 1/4" interior width to work properly with my standard folders.

It is a shame that a decent, Made in America product such as this is affected by such a simple but debilitating design flaw.
