I bought one of these safes about six months ago and have probably opened it a dozen times since then. For a two month period I didn't need to get into it. When I tried to open it after that I inserted the key and it engaged the bolt but would not open the safe. I had to get it drilled to get it open. Production quality appears low as the bolt and key mechanism were always a bit loose. I had left the safe completely undisturbed in a closet during the time it somehow degraded into non-functional. Stay away from this POS if you want to actually be able to get into the stuff you put inside of it!

I bought this just as a temporary secure place for cash and odds and ends. Drilled four holes into the top of it to mount it under a shelf with round headed bolts and lock nuts in the back of a cabinet so it isn't easily seen without looking for it. It is also handy for guests staying over - just give them both keys and they can lock up their valuables. If you worked at it, you could get into it with a crowbar, or maybe a large screwdriver, but it would take some time and effort and wouldn't be very quiet. The quality is good, and it does exactly what I wanted it for. I am very pleased with this safe, especially for the price.

My friend's house was broken into recently and stuff was stolen. Among other things, he lost his laptop which had all of his photos on it. Of course, they were never back up. Even though all of my data is backed up in duplicate, I wanted to get some extra protection for my external hard drives and other small electronics. It's one thing to have your data backed up but I definitely don't want a thief to steal equipment that I paid so much for over the years.



I'm storing a DSLR, video camera, lenses, and a few hard drives in this one and I wanted the "media" safe for the extra protection in case of a fire. The safe has a nice size to it, comes with a hanging file folder drawer, and a pull out drawer with compartments to fit different items. I ended up removing the slide out drawer for the files so that I could use the top of it like a shelf so with the other shelf, I now have 3 open sections.



Mounting the safe was easy. They do include a couple of coarse-thread wood lag screws but they didn't work for me. The safe is sitting on medium pile carpet and the lag screws would just barely penetrate the sub floor. Not nearly strong enough to hold it in place. I switched to longer bolts and reinforced the floor from underneath with squares of aluminum to spread the strength. This ain't goin nowhere. Because the safe is so heavy, a thief with a prybar could slip it right under the safe and pop it out if the included lag screws were used. I think bolts are the better way to go.



The safe has the ability to connect a small USB hard drive inside and cables are included for this. There is an internal connect to link the USB hard drive on the door and then on the outside of the safe, there is another USB port. Not using this so I can't comment on it. The door has enough storage for 2 Maxtor One Touch Mini drives (I have one of those hard drives and I could fit 2 in the door pocket). There are also hooks on the inside of the door to hang keys from.



Programming the keypad was easy. You can actually program a few codes to this. One main code and then a few Manager codes.



Overall, a great safe and I'm very happy with it. Delivery was right to my curb via freight truck and I borrowed a friend's hand truck to wheel it in my house. The safe is about 200 pounds.

The Problem:



This item failed and the customer service from the company was very poor.



After we had the safe for about two months, white "stuff" started leaking from the front of the safe under the keypad and on the hinges



We contacted their customer service department and after being place on hold forever and transferred around several times we were able to talk with someone.



They said they are aware of the problem and offered to replace the safe, but we had to take off parts and send the keypad in at our expense.



It cost us about $100.00 for us to have the safe moved and installed in the house and they offered no help in having the replacement safe moved in to the home to replace the defective safe that they sold to us.



So their defective product would cost us the price of shipping back the keypad and the cost of having the new safe moved and installed. ($100.00+)



Of course all of this happened just a few days after the time I could return it to Amazon.



The Safe:



The keypad to the safe has a cheap design and feel to it. It is very hard to attach to the front of the safe. I get the feeling that it will not last.



We found the shelves provided with the safe take up most of the room in the safe. There should have been a better design if this is a media safe.



I would look for another company to provide your security needs.

The safe was moderately dented in shipment. I submitted pictures and showed where packaging failed. The damage was cosmetic and I requested Amazon to reduce the price rather than exchange. They offered a fair adjustment and I kept the safe. Thank you Amazon.



I have had the safe several months. It works fine for home use, but there have been annoyances.



1) Every mounting situation is different, but the lag screws supplied give a false sense of security. A prybar can rip lag screws from the floor in seconds. Do it right. The safe should be bolted through steel plates placed under a wood floor or in concrete. Use round head (carriage) bolts that can't be unbolted from outside the safe. BTW, this safe can only be bolted to the floor, not the wall.



2) Occasionally, the safe won't open. Once you enter the code, you have to wait a couple seconds before turning the handle. If you don't wait, the safe won't open. And if you wait more than four seconds... it won't open. The safe has always opened within 3 tries. So, maybe it's just me.



3) Large capacity hard drives require external power and portable drives require two USB ports for power. You cannot add a second portable drive in this safe because of USB power limits. The safe could be improved by adding a hard drive power cable or an externally powered USB hub. Otherwise, you are limited to one small portable drive. On the bright side, hard drive heat dissipation within the safe has not been a problem.



4) The shelving provided is bulky and didn't meet my needs. There are slots in the safe wall though and I was able to make my own shelves.



This safe is not ideal, but it's the best I could find for my needs. It's a quality safe. Amazon has been great and I would certainly buy this safe again.

A very nice safe for the money. Even on sale, this safe goes for $650 and up, and then they charge for shipping. I opted for the "Amazon Free Shipping" as opposed to the options that allowed you to schedule your delivery which cost up to $150 more. They used CEVA, which not only allowed me to contact them and pick a day, but also gave me a 4 hour window of time for their delivery. On the expected day, I contacted them and they told me within an hour of when the driver was to arrive. The driver himself contacted me when he was about 15 minutes away. I can't compliment this company enough with regard to their accountability. They then delivered the package to the inside of my garage for me (it was a 275 lb package) and told me I had 30 days to return it if there were any issues with the condition of the package discovered after I opened it. Fantastic experience, I hope Amazon continues to use CEVA. Once I got it inside and unpacked it, it was very solidly constructed and worked as advertised. The material on the adjustable shelves was a little flimsy and was coming off of one of them, but a little glue fixed that easily. My wife was very impressed and now has a secure place to put her valuables.

We wanted a secure wall safe for our keys and this one is almost perfect. It has thick steel walls, sturdy hinges,and two heavy duty pins that engage the left side of the unit when the door is locked. It can be programmed to open via a keypad or opened with a key in the event that you forget the code. Although the keypad layout suggests that you could have two separate unique codes and assign them respectively to an "A" or a "B" button on the keypad, you cannot. Only the last code that you program will be recognized. This is a minor issue.



The cabinet is designed to be surface mounted; however, I wished to recess ours into the wall cavity between the wall studs. This required drilling two holes on each side of the cabinet for the mounting lag bolts and adding wood filler blocks to the wall studs because the width of the cabinet is much less than the space between our wall studs. Again, a somewhat minor issue for me.



Overall I think this is a great product and solved our key problem.

We purchased the item to serve as a key safe. The build quality, heavy duty construction, and ease of installation were all better than anticipated. It works GREAT for storing extra keys we have around our house.



We put a thin piece of finished wood in the back of the safe (ours is mounted on a wall). This gave us something to fasten some key hooks on, since the inside is lined with a carpet-like surface. The electronic combination and locking system work just great, and we are telling all our friends about its versatility and quality. Highly recommended. Thanks again, Amazon!!

I purchased this product along with its bigger brother: Stack-On IWC-22 Mid-Sized In-Wall Cabinet; this review applies to both, as they are identical except for height.



The wall box is exactly as described. It's not fancy; it's a heavy gauge sheet metal box with a decent quality brass lock. It lacks the features you'd find on much more expensive wall boxes, some of which might seriously effect the security of the box, but the lock is good quality, the hinges are enclosed and protected, and the box is generally of decent build quality. The lock is a key lock, which is mildly annoying, but that's clear from the product description, and some folks prefer them, right? Installation took less than five minutes with a drill and a drywall saw, and looks professionally installed. The box fits between two studs perfectly, so you can't even install it off-level. Advice: when I installed the second box, I found that the studs were slightly closer together than they're supposed to be. Be sure to have a hammer and a set of wood chisels, or a planer, or whatever your tool of choice to shave 1/8" or 1/4" off of a 2x4.



Be sure to look at the other side of the wall before you cut ... a switch box, or even a run of romex will take up enough space that the box won't fit.



You could probably also install this as a floor safe, as well.



This box is not fire resistant. If someone with a pry bar wants in, and is willing to invest a little time, they're gonna get in. The truth is, though, that if you have something in your home that someone wants, they're going to get it if they're willing to take the time. What I want from this box is a place to put stuff that is hidden, and even if found, will offer enough resistance that the typical burglar won't bother with it. It's also more than sufficient to keep my prescription medicatins, handgun, and ammunition out of the hands of my kid.



The reality is that if you have things that valuable, or important, you should be prepared to spend much more than $30 or so to protect them, and you're probably looking at the wrong item. Otherwise, I don't think this product will disappoint.
